Question about a control in some commercial aircraft?
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010October 21, 2006
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
In photographs of some commercial aircraft I have seen a control that resembles a number selector on the pilot’s and maybe the first officer’s control wheel.
In these photos it resembles a four digit number selector probably no more that 3-4 inches across that would be right under the operators right thumb on his/her control wheel.
The type of selector that I’m reffering to has four small windows each displaying a single digit. Under each window is a small wheel that changes it’s respective number when rotated.
I figured it might be a frequncy or transponder control but I really have no idea what it is.
Thanks
Al

Bringing my yamaha keyboard onto a commercial aircraft?
Friday, December 25th, 2009I have a 61-key Yamaha keyboard. I’m not sure if I can fly with it on either domestic or international flights. Does anyone know if the airline will let me fit it in the overhead compartment? I’ve traveled with my guitar before which fitted in the compartment just fine, but I don’t know about the keyboard.
Additional Details
PS. I am moving to Japan in a few months and would really like to bring my keyboard with me onto the aircraft. GEnuine answers will be appreciated.

Why shorter fuselage aircraft could fly longer ranges than longer fuselage aircraft?
Saturday, December 19th, 2009I’m talking about the Boeing 747SP which could fly further than it’s longer fuselage brothers 747-100/200/300. That was before the 747-400 with its winglets on the wingtips entered service in 1989 which now could fly further than its older 100/200/300/SP version brothers and the new 747-8 could fly even further but the 747SP still is the highest flying subsonic commercial aircraft at an altitude of 45100 feet.
What does it mean for a commercial aircraft to have flight crew commonality savings?
Thursday, October 8th, 2009This is an extension of a previous question I asked. I know what commonality saving are in regards to parts, but I’m looking at an aircraft that says it has 70% commonality savings with flight crew. What does that mean, because regardless of the a/c, you’d still be using the same crew, right?
