I have a pilot friend in Japan who wishes to ship his motor glider from Japan to Alaska and fly it there for a month or so, then return to Japan. The aircraft is a Grob 109, and it is registered in Japan as JA2xxxx. Does he also need to do something about his certificate, such as converting his Japan certificate to FAA? He will only fly as “pleasure” for a month in Alaska.
